Disorder of the trigeminal nerve which supplies sensory and motor information to the face controlling movements such as biting and chewing.
The cause is unknown
Majority of cases affects people over 40, women more than men
SYMPTOMS
Short burst of severe sharp, burning, cutting or electric like pain affecting the distribution of the trigeminal nerve pathway
Generally one sided
Pain is set off by toughing a trigger point or sensitive area of the face
Pain could also be triggered by movement brushing your teeth, or chewing, talking
